Workshop Program

Tuesday, June 15: Boat Trip to western Choctawhatchee Bay

During a boat trip to the western Choctawhatchee Bay, teachers will spend the day using scientific equipment to measure water quality parameters, including dissolved oxygen, salinity, nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients, and chlorophyll. Teachers will use cutting edge software to instantaneously create a map of their data. A major goal of the field trip is to create a DVD of teachers actively using & explaining the equipment that they can take back to their schools.

Wednesday, June 16: Using Real Water Quality Data in Your Classroom

Teachers will receive classroom ready lecture material on harmful algal blooms, eutrophication, and water quality. Teachers will also receive curriculum and instructions that will allow them to incorporate data and mapping software into their classrooms without the use of any expensive equipment, except a computer and internet connection.
